Portuguese farmers contest the Government's announcements regarding sector support, considering that the measures announced do not correspond to the reality experienced on the ground. The CNA, Confederation of Farmers, states that the sector is going through major difficulties despite official promises.
According to CNA data, farmers spent over 55 million euros on diesel since the start of the war in Ukraine, just to maintain production. This value represents a significant increase in the operational costs of agricultural holdings.
The CNA emphasizes that this amount of 55 million euros on fuel demonstrates that the support provided by the Government falls well short of the real needs of the agricultural sector. Farmers consider that government announcements do not translate into sufficient measures to address the increase in production costs.
