From 2021 to 2026, 1,082 hospitalizations for alcohol dependence were recorded in the Azores region. This number represents more than a thousand hospitalizations related to excessive alcohol consumption over a five-year period.

The hospitalizations were carried out in two health units in the region: the Casa de Saúde de São Miguel and the Casa de Saúde de São Rafael. These are the institutions responsible for treating people with alcohol dependence in the Azores.

Among the recorded cases, 48 hospitalizations involved young people under 30 years old. This data reveals that a small but significant portion of patients treated for alcohol dependence in the region belongs to the youngest age group.

The total number of hospitalizations shows that alcohol consumption continues to be a relevant public health problem in the Azores, affecting people of different ages, including young adults.
