Joshua Wong, former student leader of Hong Kong, pleaded guilty during the trial held under the national security law. Wong is accused of international "lobbying" for self-determination and democracy in Hong Kong.

The activist faces a possible life sentence, being one of the most well-known faces of the pro-democracy movement in the region. The trial is taking place under legislation imposed by China in 2020, which criminalizes acts considered subversive or separatist.

Wong's case marks another chapter in the repression of pro-democracy activists in Hong Kong, in a context of growing control by Chinese authorities over the territory.

Recreational bivalve fishing will be prohibited in the international stretch of the Minho river from 1 November 2026, for public health reasons, until a management plan is approved. The notice, published in the Official Gazette for the 2026/2027 season, establishes that all harvesting of clams and any other bivalves is prohibited, as the ITM (International Stretch of the Minho River) is not a production area monitored by IPMA. Although commercial harvesting had never been permitted, recreational harvesting was previously allowed. The permanent management committee of the ITM is making efforts to create a monitoring and verification plan for the condition of bivalves.
