The Confraternity of Chanfana from Vila Nova de Poiares will celebrate its 25th anniversary with "Operation Chanfana", an initiative scheduled for October 4th, between 12:00 and 18:00, at Alameda de Santo André. The event is organized in partnership with the Municipal Council of Vila Nova de Poiares and aims to gather and cook a large quantity of chanfana to offer to the population and visitors.
According to the lord steward of the confraternity, Madalena Carrito, the intention is to involve the entire community in the preparation of the traditional dish, using certified black clay caçoilos with the "Barro Preto de Olho Marinho" brand. The organization is contacting individuals, companies and associations to participate in the initiative.
The Operation Chanfana program also includes traditional sweets, wine tastings, entertainment and activities for children. The confraternity intends that this initiative commemorates the organization's anniversary and reinforces the connection of Vila Nova de Poiares to chanfana as a gastronomic, cultural and tourist element of the municipality.
The 25th anniversary celebrations also include the XXIII Grande Capítulo of the Confraternity, scheduled for September 13th, which includes the reception of confraternities at the Municipal Market, a parade through the main streets of the town and the enthronement ceremony of new confrades at the Poiares Cultural Center. Madalena Carrito highlighted the work developed over 25 years, including the annual Chanfana Week and the affirmation of Vila Nova de Poiares as the "Universal Capital of Chanfana".
