"Posteiro" can raise electricity bill by at least R$ 2.4 billion

extra2 September 2026 at 10:01

Changes to Bill 3,220/2019, which establishes new rules for sharing poles between energy distributors and telecommunications companies, can generate an impact of at least R$ 2.4 billion per year on Brazilians' electricity bills, according to estimates from sector specialists. The proposal was approved by the Federal Senate in March, after years of negotiation between the two sectors, and is currently under discussion in the Chamber of Deputies.

One of the points under debate is the possibility of creating a new structure to manage the poles, which became known during negotiations as "posteiro." Currently, energy distributors are responsible for managing the more than 53 million poles existing in the country and share this infrastructure with telephone, internet, and subscription TV companies.

Part of the revenue obtained from sharing the poles returns to consumers through tariff modesty, a mechanism that helps reduce the value of energy bills. The text of the article was interrupted, but it suggests there is more information about the impacts of this proposal that was not included in the available version.

Tim Cook to receive $47 million as Apple chairman

Tim Cook, who stepped down as Apple CEO at the end of August after nearly 15 years, will receive a compensation package of approximately $47 million as chairman of the Board of Directors, comprising $2 million in annual salary and $45 million in stock, representing a 20% reduction compared to 2025 compensation. His successor, John Ternus, will receive a base salary of $3 million and an annual stock grant valued at $55 million. This leadership change marks only the second CEO transition at Apple in this century, and analysts interpret Cook's substantial salary package as a signal that he will continue to play an active executive role, providing support to the company in dialogues with global policymakers.

Portugal summons Russian ambassador after hybrid attacks in Germany

Portugal will summon the Russian ambassador to demand explanations about hybrid drone attacks at Leipzig airport in Germany, after Berlin attributed responsibility to Russia. Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel announced the measure upon arrival at an informal EU foreign ministers meeting in Ireland, anticipating a "very strong" reaction from the European Union to the incident. The ministers will discuss possible measures today, including an expanded sanctions package against individuals and companies, as well as preventive measures for cybersecurity and protection of airspace and critical infrastructure. Germany held Russia responsible for the drone attack attempt at Leipzig airport in August, which contained explosives and targeted cargo planes used to send military aid to Ukraine. Rangel also noted that all member states are feeling Russian hybrid threats, giving the example of Ireland, which has faced several incidents, including at airports.
