Festas da Guia records one of the highest attendances ever

Jornal do Algarve2 September 2026 at 09:37

The Festas da Guia, held on August 29 and 30 in the town of the municipality of Albufeira, recorded one of the highest public attendances ever, with thousands of people passing through the parish. Saturday night, August 29, was the busiest, with the Polidesportivo da Guia reaching a new maximum of visitors during Bonga's concert.

The religious celebrations were one of the main moments of the festivities. On Saturday, a Mass and Procession were held starting from the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Guia. On Sunday, August 30, the ceremonies continued with the Mass and Procession starting from the Main Church, in honour of Nossa Senhora da Guia and São Luís.

Sunday night was marked by the cancellation of Ruth Marlene's concert, who was forced to cancel her performance due to health reasons. The musical entertainment was provided by the remaining musicians and the backing band, who kept the festive atmosphere going until the fireworks display that closed the festivities.

Dinis Nascimento, president of the Junta de Freguesia da Guia, stated that the number of people who came to Guia demonstrates the importance of these festivities for the parish, underscoring the goal of keeping the religious and cultural traditions alive. The Junta de Freguesia thanked the collaboration of parishioners, volunteers, associations, artists, technical teams, security forces, rescue services, the Paróquia da Guia, and the Câmara Municipal de Albufeira.
