The government defined the operating rules for the new Single Social Benefit (PSU), created to simplify the social support system and reinforce protection for people and families with insufficient resources. This benefit represents a significant reformulation in how social support is assigned in Portugal.
With the implementation of the PSU, control over beneficiaries' income will be tighter. This means that access conditions and eligibility criteria will be more rigorous, in order to ensure that support actually reaches the people and families who need it most.
The measure comes in the context of a simplification of the social protection system, consolidating various support measures into a single instrument. The objective is to make the assignment of social benefits more efficient and transparent, avoiding overlaps and ensuring better orientation of available resources.
