To shield Moraes, Gonet uses STF decision that annulled case tried by Moro

oglobo2 September 2026 at 08:30

The Attorney General of Brazil, Paulo Gonet, defended the nullification of the Federal Police report that dealt with the exchange of messages between businessman Daniel Vorcaro and Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supreme Federal Court.

To support his argument, Gonet turned to a decision by the STF itself that, in 2020, annulled a case related to the Banestado case.

The annulled case had been tried by former federal judge Sergio Moro, who became known for leading Operation Car Wash (Lava Jato).

The defense presented by Gonet thus uses a precedent from the court itself to question the validity of the police report involving the messages between Vorcaro and Moraes.
