The Special Court of the Superior Court of Justice judges this Wednesday, at 2pm, the merits of Criminal Action 897, which has as defendants five council members of the Court of Accounts of the State of Rio de Janeiro. Council members Aloysio Neves Guedes, Domingos Inácio Brazão, José Gomes Graciosa, José Maurício Nolasco and Marco Antônio Barbosa de Alencar are accused of integrating a criminal organization aimed at receiving bribes in public contracts.
The process is a follow-up to Operation Quinto do Ouro, launched by the Federal Police in March 2017. The operation investigated corruption schemes involving TCE-RJ members.
Of the five council members defendants, Domingos Brazão lost his position after being sentenced to 76 years in prison for the murder of councilwoman Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes. The vacancy opened by his departure has not yet been filled.
