Rogério Valença, former vocalist of the band Calcinha Preta, died this Tuesday at 55 in Aracaju, in Sergipe. The musician was being treated for kidney failure and was awaiting a kidney transplant, but could not resist after suffering a heart attack.
Valença is the third vocalist of the electronic forró band to die in the last five years. The artist joined the group in 1998 and remained with the band until the year 2000, during which he shared vocals with Paulinha Abelha.
Paulinha Abelha, who also died from kidney failure at 43, had three stints with the band between 1998 and 2022. Her death reverberated nationally and was mourned, including by former president Jair Bolsonaro, who classified the artist as "one of the great names of the legendary band Calcinha Preta" in a post on social media X.
