Ministry of Finance refuses meeting with DF over loan to save BRB and says market coordination is necessary

The Ministry of Finance refused the request for a meeting from the government of the Federal District with Minister Dario Durigan to discuss the R$ 6.6 billion loan requested from the Credit Guarantee Fund (FGC) to save Banco de Brasília (BRB).

In an official letter sent on Monday, Durigan's chief of staff, Fábio Terra, informed that the Office of the Attorney General (AGU) and the Office of the Chief Prosecutor of the National Treasury (PGFN) have represented the Union in the negotiations on the matter.

According to the document, the federal government's understanding is that the structuring and execution of the operation do not fall within the responsibilities of the Federal Government. The official letter states that this has never prevented the government from helping where appropriate, but that the Federal District must coordinate directly with financial institutions and other market agents.
