The Timorese Government approved today, at a Council of Ministers meeting, a special public procurement regime to prepare for the presidency of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Timor-Leste will assume the ASEAN presidency in 2029, which motivates the creation of this special regime to streamline the procurement processes necessary for the preparation of this event.
The regime was approved by the Council of Ministers at the meeting held today, allowing the Timorese executive to accelerate the logistical and organizational procedures related to the preparation of the presidency of the regional bloc.
This decision comes in the context of Timor-Leste's preparations to assume a leadership role in ASEAN, an organization that brings together the countries of Southeast Asia and of which the country has been an observer member since 2022.
