OpenAI launches model capable of cyberattacks but with system that limits actions

RTP Notícias2 September 2026 at 07:00

OpenAI announced on Tuesday the launch of its next artificial intelligence model, called Astra. This model represents a significant advance in the capacity of AIs to perform autonomous operations.

The Astra model is capable of invading well-protected systems independently, demonstrating a level of technical sophistication that raises concerns about cybersecurity. This capability places the new model in a different tier from previous ones.

However, the company revealed that Astra will be launched accompanied by a dedicated monitoring system. This system will have the function of interrupting the model's actions if they exceed certain defined limits, seeking to balance innovation with security.

The decision of OpenAI to include this security mechanism reflects the growing attention of the technology industry to the risks associated with increasingly autonomous AI systems capable of performing sensitive tasks.
