The state of Rio de Janeiro loses more than half of treated water before it reaches consumers' taps. According to data from Instituto Trata Brasil, 50.53% of water distributed in the state is lost throughout the system, an index higher than the national average of 39.53%.
The challenge will be at the center of debates at the 5th edition of SANEARio, a state seminar on sanitation and environment that will be held on Wednesday, the 2nd, in Glória, South Zone of Rio. The event will have the theme "Technology and Innovation in Loss Control" and will bring together specialists, representatives of utilities, companies, government and universities to discuss alternatives to reduce waste and increase the efficiency of supply systems.
The program would start at 8am, at the TotalEnergies Theater, on Rua do Russel. The debate takes place amid a scenario that exposes a paradox in access to water in the country: while 34 million Brazilians still do not have access to treated water, almost 40% of production is lost before reaching consumers.
