The second edition of the Cheque-livro programme ended on 31 August with more than 52,000 vouchers issued, of which more than 85% were effectively used by the beneficiaries. The Ministry led by Margarida Balseiro Lopes considered these to be the best results since the programme's launch, which took place in 2024.
The programme allows beneficiaries to receive a voucher for the purchase of books, functioning as support for reading and access to literature. The numbers from this second edition surpass the results of the previous edition, demonstrating growing uptake by the target audience.
The positive balance presented by the responsible ministry highlights the importance of this initiative for promoting reading in Portugal. The fact that more than 85% of the vouchers were redeemed indicates effective demand and a high level of utilisation of the support provided.
