Wall Street started the month of September with sharp declines on its main stock indices. The Nasdaq fell 1.03% to 26,099.77 points, the S&P 500 dropped 0.71% to 7,631.54 points and the Dow Jones lost 0.79% to 52,766.88 points. This Tuesday's trading session, September 1, was marked by a new global bond sell-off.
The markets were also influenced by the escalation of tensions in the Middle East, in a context of a new offensive by the United States against Iran. This geopolitical situation contributed to the environment of uncertainty that dominated the New York trading floors.
At the same time, oil prices continued to rise significantly. The Brent barrel soared 7.73% to $95.20, exceeding the $95 threshold, while crude advanced 5.73% to $90.67. This oil appreciation accompanied the new American offensive on Iran.
