The academic year began in the Azores with 98% of teachers placed, according to official data. This figure represents the placement rate achieved in the first phase of teacher placement in the region.
In the first placement phase, 121 vacancies remained unfilled, meaning they were not occupied due to a lack of interested candidates. At the same time, 154 teachers also did not apply for any of the available vacancies, which contributed to the existence of vacant positions.
Regarding remuneration conditions, the monthly allowance granted to teachers who accept to teach in disadvantaged areas was increased from 300 to 500 euros. This salary increase aims to attract more teachers to the most needy areas of the region.
The Azores archipelago, composed of nine islands, faces specific challenges in the distribution of teachers across the various schools, particularly on the smaller islands where the shortage of candidates is most pronounced.
