Civil Defense issues alert for strong winds and heavy rain in Rio; city enters Stage 2

oglobo1 September 2026 at 19:55

Rio de Janeiro entered Stage 2 at 3 PM on Tuesday, after the Civil Defense issued an alert for showers accompanied by lightning and strong, localized wind gusts in the city. The change in alert level was determined by the City's Operations and Resilience Center (COR-Rio) and occurs due to the passage of a cold front through the region.

According to the Alerta Rio System, rain cells were already affecting the West Zone of the city at the time of the announcement, causing showers in the area. The forecast is that these unstable areas will advance to other regions of the city in the coming hours, with possibility of new changes in the alert level.

For the next hour, the meteorological forecast indicates moderate showers in the city, which may occur in a strong and rapid manner. Stage 2 is the second level of a five-stage scale used by the city government to classify climate risk situations in the city.
