Electric cars represented nearly a quarter of light vehicle sales in the country in August, reaching an unprecedented level. The 63,709 units sold in the month corresponded to 24.3% of the total market, surpassing the 61,846 units from July (23.3%) and more than double the 24,755 recorded in August 2025.
Year-to-date, the segment already totals approximately 367,500 units sold, compared to 156,700 in 2025, representing an advance of approximately 134%. The numbers were anticipated by consulting firm Bright Consulting, specialized in the automotive sector, based on official records from Renavam.
Chinese automaker BYD ranked fourth in the market and got closer to General Motors, the third-place holder of the Chevrolet brand. BYD sold 24,441 automobiles and light commercial vehicles last month.
Anfavea, the entity representing automakers, reported that vehicle sales grew 17.9% year-to-date, but exports declined 20.8% in the same period.
