Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro expressed "total solidarity" with Germany following a hybrid attack attributed to Russia. The German government formally held Russia responsible for the drone incidents recorded at Leipzig airport last August.
In response to these incidents, the German government announced the closure of the Russian consulate in the city of Bonn and the Russian cultural center in Berlin. This measure represents an escalation of diplomatic tensions between Germany and Russia.
Portuguese solidarity with Germany comes in the context of a broader set of Western accusations against Russian hybrid activities in Europe, which include interference, sabotage and disinformation operations against allied countries.
