FRIMOR celebrates 304 years with the onion at the center of a fair that wants to continue evolving

Correio do Ribatejo1 September 2026 at 19:10

FRIMOR celebrated 304 years with the onion as the protagonist of a fair that opened on Tuesday in Rio Maior and runs until Sunday. The event, called the National Onion Fair, represents an important milestone in the agricultural and cultural tradition of the region.

Santana Dias, president of the Municipal Council, defended the preservation of the agricultural roots of the event, but made clear that the municipality intends to continue expanding the economic, gastronomic and cultural dimensions of the fair. The mayor stated that they are not owners of the history, but rather its depositaries for some time.

The fair combines tradition and innovation, maintaining the focus on the onion as a central element, while expanding its offerings to include economic, gastronomic and cultural components that attract an increasingly diverse audience.

The event takes place in Rio Maior and represents an opportunity for the region to showcase its agricultural heritage, while adapting to the contemporary demands of local development and tourism promotion.
