The Ham and Onion Brotherhood of Douro, Tâmega e Sousa held its XII Enthronement Chapter in Penafiel, as part of the AGRIVAL program, an event that highlights the products, flavors and gastronomic traditions of the region. The ceremony featured the participation of confreres and guests, as well as representatives of various brotherhoods from other countries, namely from Italy, Spain and France, as well as from various Portuguese regions.
The most prominent moment was the entronement of José Manuel Fernandes, Minister of Agriculture and Sea, as an honorary confrere, in a ceremony that gave an institutional dimension to the event and brought the brotherhood closer to structures linked to national agriculture. This edition was also marked by the entry of 14 new confreres, reinforcing the brotherhood's universe and its mission to promote and preserve products and traditions associated with the Douro, Tâmega e Sousa territory.
The chapter began with the reception of participants and a route through the streets of Penafiel, accompanied by traditional musical groups, followed by the entronement ceremony. The brotherhood's presence at AGRIVAL is linked to the valorization of one of Penafiel's oldest agricultural traditions, with the Onion Fair celebrating 186 years and including the traditional competition aimed at distinguishing producers and the quality of local production.
