Botafogo closed the signing of 25-year-old defender Arthur Chaves from Hoffenheim, Germany. The deal was closed through a one-year loan, with the club paying 1.5 million euros (approximately R$9 million). There is an obligation to purchase if contractual targets are met, which would raise the total value of the transaction to 6 million euros (approximately R$35.8 million).
Arthur Chaves was revealed by Avaí and, still young, at age 21, was transferred to Académico in Portugal. Subsequently, he was sold to Hoffenheim, where he played until then. Botafogo's scouting department mapped the player and had previously attempted to sign him on other occasions.
Besides Botafogo, the defender also attracted interest from Vasco, São Paulo, and other German clubs during this transfer window. Internally, the player is seen as an athlete of high potential, but who was not having a great moment in Europe.
Although right-footed, Arthur Chaves has the ability to play on both sides of the center-back pairing. The defender is described as a fast center-back, with good tactical reading and solid performance in individual duels.
