Brussels expressed support for public participation in REN (Redes Energéticas Nacionais), considering that this measure allows for greater "energy security" in Portugal.
Minister Maria da Graça Carvalho stated that Portugal was the only country, among the companies that are part of the European network of transmission system operators, whose company was "completely private".
This position arises in the context of debates about the shareholder structure and the management of critical energy infrastructure in the European Union.
The European executive understands that greater public participation in these companies can reinforce the stability and control over national energy systems.
