Chelsea sell Enzo Fernández to Manchester City for record fee in England and Benfica also pocket the amount

Record1 September 2026 at 17:24

Chelsea sold Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernández to Manchester City for 146 million euros, setting a new transfer record in English football. The player is set to switch clubs in the Premier League, leaving the blues to join the citizens.

Benfica also benefits from this multi-million transfer. The Portuguese club held a percentage of the player's economic rights, so it will receive a significant amount from the sale.

Enzo Fernández arrived at Chelsea in January 2023, coming precisely from Benfica, in a deal that at the time already represented a significant investment by the English club. Since then, the Argentine has been an important figure in the team's midfield.

This sale allows Chelsea to recover and potentially profit from the investment made in the player, in a transfer market that continues to reach extraordinary values for high-quality players.
