The municipalities of Tomar and Mação will receive Starlink equipment to ensure satellite communications in emergency situations. The measure is part of a government program created after the communication failures highlighted by the storms at the beginning of the year.
The mayor of Tomar, Tiago Carrão, from the PSD, told the Lus news agency that the equipment should arrive at the municipality in the coming days.
The Starlink equipment will allow satellite communications to be maintained when traditional telecommunications infrastructure fails, which can happen during extreme weather events.
The program aims to reinforce the response capacity of municipalities in emergency situations, ensuring that civil protection services and the population can remain contactable even under adverse conditions.
