Anthropic signed a cloud computing agreement worth $35 billion (approximately €30.2 billion) with Lambda, a cloud services provider backed by Nvidia. The project is being developed by Hut 8 in Nueces County, Texas, and is expected to have a capacity of around 350 megawatts.
The agreement comes at a time when Anthropic is accelerating investment in computing capacity to keep up with growing demand for its artificial intelligence products, namely the programming assistant Claude Code. The company, which is preparing to go public, announced last week that it will spend $45 billion to rent computing capacity for AI at the Nscale data center campus in West Virginia.
Through the agreement with Lambda, Anthropic will have access to capacity equipped with Nvidia chips, intended to meet the growing demand for Claude. The operation also directly involves Nvidia, which will hold the lease contract for the data center.
In July, Hut 8 had announced a 15-year lease contract worth a base of $19.6 billion, with an investment-grade client. The Financial Times later identified Nvidia as the tenant of Hut 8's Beacon Point campus, with a capacity of one gigawatt.
