The Spanish Ministry of Health, through the Government Delegation for the National Plan on Drugs, put up for public electronic auction a total of 158 lots of gold jewelry and precious stones. Starting prices begin at 10 euros, making these items accessible to a wide range of buyers.
The auctioned goods were confiscated by the Spanish state as part of operations against drug trafficking. These are pieces that were in the possession of organized crime networks and that now have a social purpose.
The profits from these sales will be reinvested in drug prevention programs and in initiatives to assist people with drug problems. This measure allows illegal goods to be transformed into resources for public health actions.
The auction takes place in electronic format, allowing interested parties to participate remotely and transparently. This is not the first time the Spanish authorities have used this type of auction to give useful purpose to goods seized in police operations.
