The Municipality of Mourão signed a collaboration protocol with the Social Security Institute, I.P./District Centre of Évora, on August 26, to ensure funding for the future Municipal Nursery. The agreement was sealed by the mayor, João Fortes, and by the director of the District Centre of Évora, Nuno Branco Alas, guaranteeing financial support for children's attendance through the "Happy Nursery" program. The new nursery, with capacity for 42 children from four months to three years old, opens in September and will be directly managed by the Municipality, being the first nursery under direct municipal management in the district of Évora. The facility results from the renovation and expansion of the Mourão Kindergarten, with an investment of approximately one million euros. Mourão was the only municipality in the country without any social services for early childhood, and the council sees this project as strategic for population retention and improving family living conditions.
