The presidential candidate Augusto Cury (Avante) filed a lawsuit against substitute councilman from Curitiba Rodrigo Reis (PL) for moral damages. The lawsuit was filed in São Paulo court after the publication of a false image showing Cury hugging Congressman André Janones (Rede-MG), an ally of President Lula (PT).
The manipulated photo was produced with artificial intelligence and published last Friday (28) on Reis's profile. The image was accompanied by text that associated Cury and his party with PT, stating that Avante supported Lula in 2022 and elected Janones. The post has already been deleted.
Cury is seeking R$ 15 thousand for moral damages and a public retraction. The writer and presidential candidate claims to be a victim of disinformation and misuse of his image for political purposes. The case highlights the growing use of artificial intelligence tools to create false content during the electoral period.
