The National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof) warned that, just ten days before the start of the school year, the main challenge continues to be the hiring of teachers to fill vacancies in several schools across the country.
Among the problems identified by unionist Feliciano Costa, inadequate school buildings, students with special needs who remain without the necessary support, and professionals overwhelmed with excessive work stand out.
Fenprof emphasizes that these difficulties reflect structural failures in the Portuguese education system, which have persisted for years and have not yet been resolved by the competent authorities.
The imminent start of classes places additional pressure on schools, which face the risk of beginning the school year with classes without an assigned teacher and without the necessary resources to ensure quality education for all students.
