The literary prize associated with the Correntes d'Escritas festival will return to have the support of Casino da Póvoa starting from the 2027 edition, after being absent from this year's edition. The news was announced by the president of the Póvoa de Varzim City Council, Andrea Silva, during an executive meeting held on Monday, August 31.
The mayor stated that support will be resumed under the name Prémio Casino Barrière Póvoa, in the amount of 25 thousand euros. Andrea Silva welcomed the sensitivity demonstrated by the new Casino Barrière concessionaires towards culture in the municipality and towards this event of international scope.
The president of the City Council highlighted the importance of this support for the continuity and enhancement of one of the most prestigious literary festivals in the Portuguese language. The festival annually brings together writers, poets, publishers, and readers from various countries in Póvoa de Varzim.
Starting from the next edition, in February 2027, the prize will be called Prémio Casino Barrière Póvoa, reflecting the entry of the new concessionaire as sponsor of the literary distinction.
