Mazón disconnects the late ES-Alert from the deaths caused by the dana

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General1 September 2026 at 15:29

The judicial procedure investigating the possible criminal responsibilities for the catastrophe of the 2024 dana was reactivated after the holidays. Judge Nuria Ruiz Tobarra is the investigating judge of the process that examines the deaths and injuries caused by the meteorological phenomenon.

The defense of the former president of the Valencian Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, presented this Tuesday an extensive document in court questioning the main theories of the investigating judge.

In the document, Mazón's defense disconnects the delay in sending the ES-Alert from the 231 deaths, arguing that it was not possible to demonstrate that sending it earlier would have prevented the deaths.

The case is now focused on the analysis of political and criminal responsibilities during the management of the catastrophe, with the defense trying to rebut the charges against the former president.
