PS insists on subcommittee on SAFE military investments and holds Government responsible for controversies

RTP Notícias1 September 2026 at 15:40

The PS reiterated today its demand for the creation of a parliamentary subcommittee to monitor military investments financed through SAFE loans, continuing to pressure the Chega party to approve this initiative.

The investments under the SAFE loans refer to defense programs that have been generating public controversy, namely the frigates deal, which has been the subject of intense political debate.

The PS held the Government responsible for the controversies surrounding these military deals, suggesting that the lack of transparency and supervision by the executive is at the root of the news controversies.

The insistence on creating the subcommittee comes in a context of political tension, with the PS trying to involve Chega in approving this oversight structure, at a time when questions surrounding defense investments continue to dominate the political agenda.
