Flamengo announces Argentine talent Joaquín Freitas from River Plate

Flamengo announced this Tuesday the signing of striker Joaquín Freitas, a 19-year-old Argentine, in their second signing during the mid-year transfer window. The red-and-black club bought the young player from River Plate for eight million dollars, approximately R$ 41 million at current exchange rates, with a five-season contract agreement, including performance bonuses.

Flamengo's first signing in this period was Ecuadorian Anthony Valencia, also announced this Tuesday. Joaquín Freitas arrived in Rio de Janeiro this morning and is expected to be registered in time to play in the Libertadores quarterfinals.

The young striker arrives at Flamengo with a clear plan from the club: to be developed as the immediate backup for Pedro. The center-forward position is identified as one of the main weaknesses of the red-and-black squad, and the club chose to bet on a young promise from Argentine football to fill this gap.
