João Lázaro, current president of the Portuguese Association for Victim Support (APAV), was appointed Deputy Ombudsman of Justice, according to a dispatch published in the Official Gazette. The appointment marks the end of his leadership at the helm of APAV, an organization dedicated to supporting crime victims.
The swearing-in and start of duties are scheduled for September 7. João Lázaro will assume his new responsibilities alongside the Ombudsman of Justice, serving as Deputy Ombudsman.
This transition represents a significant change in João Lázaro's career, as he leaves a leadership position at a reference association in victim support to join the institution of the Ombudsman of Justice.
