Luís Neves challenges André Ventura: "On the 8th I will have a regimental hearing in Parliament, I am totally available to answer you"

SIC Notícias1 September 2026 at 14:30

Luís Neves, the director of the Judicial Police, publicly challenged André Ventura, stating that on the 8th he will have a regimental hearing in Parliament and that he is totally available to answer him. The challenge comes at a time when the leader of Chega has been pressuring Luís Neves regarding a case involving the director of the PJ. André Ventura has been one of the most critical voices in relation to Luís Neves, demanding explanations about the situation in question. Given the possibility that Chega will move forward with a motion of censure against the Government due to this case, Luís Neves once again ruled out any resignation scenario. The director of the PJ thus maintains his position that he does not intend to leave the position, insisting that he will give account at the parliamentary hearing scheduled soon. The situation places the Government in a delicate position, with the opposition pressing for answers and the Government defending Luís Neves' permanence in command of the Judicial Police.

The Minister of Environment, Maria da Graça Carvalho, admitted in Brussels that the Volta System, which came into operation in Portugal in April 2026, has presented problems in its implementation, particularly related to the disposal of packaging on public roads and with people searching through trash to obtain the reimbursement of 10 cents per packaging. The minister highlighted that all identified problems are being analyzed and resolved on a case-by-case basis, emphasizing that all European countries that implemented this deposit and refund system experienced initial disruptions.
