A water main burst on Avenida Rei Pelé, in Maracanã, North Zone of Rio de Janeiro, during the early morning, causing partial flooding of the road and opening a large crater in the sidewalk near Gate 2 of Maracanã Stadium. The leak was controlled by the concessionaire Águas do Rio around 5 a.m.
Comlurb teams are working on cleaning the road and sidewalk, while Águas do Rio workers are repairing the damaged pipeline. The crater has already begun to be filled in with the support of a backhoe, but the area remains quite damaged.
The rupture may affect the water supply of 19 neighborhoods in the North and South zones of Rio. Avenida Rei Pelé was completely blocked in the Centro direction, but has already been partially released, keeping two of the four lanes blocked for the work to be carried out. Traffic remains congested in the area.
