Napoli Star and Brazil's Executioner at the World Cup, McTominay to Undergo Surgery After Cardiac Arrhythmia Diagnosis

oglobo1 September 2026 at 14:06

Scott McTominay, the Scottish midfielder for Napoli, will undergo heart surgery in the coming days to correct a "mild benign arrhythmia," as announced by the Italian club on Tuesday. The procedure aims to fix the problem diagnosed in the 28-year-old player.

Napoli estimates that McTominay will be off the pitch for several weeks, expected to return to the fields only after the next international break. As a result, the midfielder will miss an important stretch of the season, including matches against Inter Milan, Arsenal, Bologna, and Fiorentina.

The heart condition also prevents McTominay from representing the Scottish national team in the upcoming fixtures. He will not be available for the two matches against Slovenia, as well as the games against Switzerland and North Macedonia, valid for the Nations League.

Napoli expects McTominay to be back available to face Frosinone once he has fully recovered from the surgical procedure and the necessary recovery period.
