"If the school year started now, thousands of students would have no teachers," Fenprof warns days before classes begin

The National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof) warned that, days before the start of the school year, thousands of students risk not having teachers. The warning comes at a time when thousands of positions in Portuguese schools remain unfilled.

According to data released by the federation, there are 2,650 positions yet to be filled, corresponding to more than 50,000 hours of classes. These positions are full-time and annual, meaning they represent permanent needs throughout the entire school year.

Fenprof expressed concern over the situation and considered that the start of classes is at risk in several schools across the country, given the impossibility of ensuring teachers for all classes and subjects.
