CBN's Journal presented on this Tuesday (1st) another edition of "50 Debates para o Brasil," a series that discusses relevant topics for the country's future and for the October elections. This edition's program debated budget earmarking, that is, the federal government's mandatory spending.
The central discussion was whether resources earmarked for areas such as health, education, and social assistance should be maintained as a guarantee of rights, or if the Union's budget should be more flexible. The debate questions whether the earmarks protect these areas from the political choices of each government.
The program was moderated by anchors Mílton Jung and Cássia Godoy. The panel brought together Élida Graziane Pinto, prosecutor from the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Court of Accounts of the State of São Paulo (MPC-SP), and Marcus Pestana, executive director of the Independent Fiscal Institution, representing different positions on the topic.
The series aims to gather specialists with different perspectives to provide arguments that allow listeners to form their own opinion on the discussed issues.
