Lula's minister meets with government leaders to align strategy for votes in Congress

cbn1 September 2026 at 13:47

The minister of Institutional Relations, José Guimarães, met with leaders of the government base at the Palace of the Presidency to align the government's strategy during the week of concentrated effort in the National Congress. President Lula also met starting at 10:30 with ministers such as Wellington César Lima, of Justice and Public Security, and Bruno Moretti, of Planning and Budget.

After this week of votes, Lula intends to intensify his travel agenda across the country, according to campaign sources. The last week of votes before the elections promises a direct confrontation between the president's allies and the opposition, led by senator and presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro.

The opposition group tries to postpone votes on priority issues for the government, such as the Security PEC and the end of the 6x1 schedule, which could benefit Lula's campaign. The main showdown of the day involves the so-called "blusinhas tax," which will be voted on in the mixed congressional committee.
