The PSP carried out an inspection and follow-up operation targeted at the elderly population, having flagged 284 elderly people during the action. This number represents the interim assessment of the operation, which aims to identify situations of vulnerability and social risk among elderly people.
Of the 284 people flagged, 182 were identified in situations of social risk, which corresponds to a significant portion of the universe monitored by the PSP during the operation. This data highlights the scale of the phenomenon of vulnerability among the elderly.
The main risk factors identified were the lack of autonomy, which affected 77 elderly people and constitutes the most predominant factor, the suspicion of being victims of repeated criminal activity, which involved 59 elderly people, and the absence of a contact network, which was detected in 48 cases.
The PSP operation comes in the context of community outreach work with the elderly, seeking not only to inspect but also to identify and refer situations that compromise the well-being and safety of older citizens.
