Fenprof reported that there are 2,650 positions to be filled in Portuguese schools on the days the school year begins. The union alerted to the existence of thousands of students who may start the year without teachers.
The federation pointed to recruitment difficulties across the country as the cause of this situation. The problem affects schools in different regions of Portugal.
This is not the first time Fenprof has alerted to situations of teacher shortages in schools. The union has been advocating for the need for better working conditions and hiring practices to attract more teachers to the profession.
