Carris, a company owned by the Lisbon City Council, has not yet opened any disciplinary proceedings related to the Elevador da Glória accident. The company justifies that the investigations to determine the causes of the accident remain ongoing.
The accident at the Elevador da Glória occurred exactly one year ago and resulted in the death of 16 people. This was one of the deadliest accidents in the Portuguese capital in decades.
The public transport company states that the ongoing investigations aim at the "rigorous determination of the causes of the accident." For this reason, the evaluation of any disciplinary responsibilities has been deferred to a later date.
Carris thus remains without any formal procedure opened against possible responsible parties, while authorities continue with inquiries to clarify what caused the tragedy.
