The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will receive on Wednesday the Secretary-General of NATO, Mark Rutte, for a working meeting, according to an announcement by a source from the Community executive.
The main topic of discussion will be the strengthening of European defense, at a time when European countries are seeking to increase their military capabilities and strategic autonomy in the face of external threats.
The two leaders will also discuss the response to growing hybrid threats in Europe, which include disinformation campaigns, cyberattacks, and other forms of interference by state actors.
This meeting comes in a context of growing European concern with security on the continent, at a time when NATO and the European Union are seeking to strengthen their cooperation on defense.
