Operation Free Signal: police target illegal internet monopoly of TCP in Boogie Woogie community

extra1 September 2026 at 11:59

The Rio de Janeiro Civil Police, through the Delegation for the Defense of Delegated Services (DDSD), launched this Tuesday Operation Free Signal to combat the criminal monopoly of internet services in the Boogie Woogie community, on Governador Island, in the North Zone of the city. Investigations indicate that local drug traffickers maintain illegal control over internet distribution in the region, expelling regular companies from the market and turning residents into captive consumers.

Agents are executing eight search and seizure warrants at addresses linked to two clandestine providers and investigated persons. The two providers are suspected of maintaining ties with members of Terceiro Comando Puro (TCP), a criminal organization that operates drug trafficking in the region.

According to the investigations, the criminals prevent authorized companies from providing internet services to the local population. The investigation also revealed that technicians from major telecommunications operators are coerced into not working in the community, which reinforces the control exercised by the criminal organization over the service in the area.
