Caixa Cultural Rio de Janeiro hosts, from Thursday to Sunday, at the Nelson Rodrigues Theater, the show "Baile do Mestre Cupijó - Where the Siriá is Born." The show invites the audience on a musical journey through the work and influences of Mestre Cupijó, an icon of Pará music considered a pioneer in spreading Amazonian rhythms.
The show is divided into four acts that move through the origins, transformations, and continuities of the Siriá, a traditional dance from Pará. The first act, "The First Siriá," presents the roots of the rhythm and its relationship with Samba de Cacete, featuring the special participation of Mestra Iolanda do Pilão, a reference of this ancestral tradition.
In the second act, "Latin Accent," the audience can learn about the Caribbean influences present in Mestre Cupijó's music, exploring genres such as merengue, lambada, and mambo. The third act, "Banguê: Voices of the Land and the Drum," delves into the connection between Afro-Amazonian traditions, highlighting the cultural bonds of the region.
