The municipality of Mortágua announced an investment of around one million euros in direct support for students and families for the 2026-2027 school year. Among the planned measures are free school meals for preschool children and primary school students, free school transport for all levels of education, and full coverage of activity sheets and school supplies. The municipality also maintains the awarding of scholarships to disadvantaged students in secondary and higher education, having granted more than 120 thousand euros in this support during the previous school year.
The mayor of Mortágua, Ricardo Pardal, stated that Education is a structural investment for the future of young people and the municipality. The mayor highlighted that support covers all families, regardless of their economic and social situation, and that the overall investment in the Education area exceeds three million euros.
In addition to financial support, the municipality ensures services such as early and extended school hours, Nursery and ATL (After-School Care), facilitating the reconciliation between parents' professional lives and their children's schedules. In the pedagogical component, the municipality will continue to support Curricular Enrichment Activities, including sports, music and English, as well as extracurricular activities such as field trips.
Programs to promote school success and vocational guidance will be maintained, such as "From School, Grab Life," "In the Shadow of a Professional" and "Realize Yourself," which seek to bring students closer to the job market. The municipality will also continue, in coordination with the School Grouping, to promote the inclusion of children and young people with specific educational needs through a multidisciplinary team with skills in Psychology, Psychomotor Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy and Therapeutic Horseback Riding.
