The floods that devastated Nepal and parts of China have already caused over 1,000 deaths, according to official data confirmed this Tuesday. The Nepalese disaster management agency reported 987 deaths in Nepal and 3,916 missing, numbers that continue to increase as rescue operations advance.
Rescue teams face enormous difficulties reaching isolated communities, where roads, bridges and infrastructure have been completely destroyed by the force of the floods. The large-scale destruction has significantly hindered relief efforts on the ground.
Among the missing are 583 foreigners, including three Portuguese citizens, according to information provided by the Ministry. Authorities continue to try to locate all people affected by this catastrophe.
